i am behind. i know it.

yes.  i am behind on updates.  i know.

between being ill, travel, WORK and, most importantly, a complete computer crash…  it has been tough.  i just spent some time building a completely new system from scratch.  something i have not done, believe it or not, in almost 12 years.  all this time, i have been purchasing open box “major brand” desktops and then retrofitting them with new components.

so…

i am up and running again — for the most part.  i am still migrating a bunch of settings and, sadly, it looks like i am going to have to rebuild the entire image database i have on my desktop.  it is going to be a while before i can get photos from the past month and a half up here…

on a good note…  i am totally digging vista.  and my new core 2 duo proc.  and my new kick ass video card.  and the 4GB of RAM.  and everything else i put into this monster…  ahem.

blue heroes take the summer season!

wooo!!

after almost 6 years, 18 seasons and 5 teams at chelsea piers…  i am part of a winner!

the blue heroes took out the blights in the championship game with a shutout victory — 4-0.

the “heroes”?

jeremy…  with a natural hat trick!  and…  adam…  with yet another shutout!

on to the fall season…

semi-final win… CHECK!

the blue heroes breezed (and i HATE saying that) through the semi-final for the summer season winning 10-0.

the other team only iced 5 skaters and conceded after the first period which, technically, means we won 8-0.

either way, we are headed to the final.  nice!

i scored twice…  off the opening faceoff, i pushed forward and past one D to get a clear shot — straight and low to the corner of the net.  elapsed time?  ~5 seconds.  my second goal had me in the high slot and taking a nice feed off my skate, directly to my stick and whipped high corner.

blue heroes — summer regular season…

my summer hockey team — a combination of my d5 and d6 teams at chelsea piers — finished the regular season…

undefeated, bay-bee!  8-0

i only had the chance to play in half the games, sadly, due to travel and illness, but i always enjoy the summer format — 4-on-4, two 25 minute running time periods, no icing…

we finished with the second best goals for (46) and the second lowest goals against (18), but with the best +/- (28).

the summer playoffs are one and done, so we will see what happens in the semi-finals…

spilka’s… death trap?

there was a time…  long ago…  when i was in high school…

a bunch of us used to a) go to spilkas for seafood and bad beer and b) joke about going to spilkas for seafood and bad beer.  clams, man.  clams.

i would point to it every time i passed it on the way in to see my family in the last 15 years…  it was closed for quite a long time.  on my most recent trip, i saw the beautiful neon “open” sign all lit up.  spilka’s was open!  (i have no idea for how long…)

and then…

kevin sent me this article from a local utica tv station.  apparently, it is not only open, but people are (still?) getting whacked there.  harsh.  is the prospect of death worth the experience at spilka’s?  that’s a definite maybe.  ;-)

as alison and i were driving in to clinton this past weekend, we were headed down route 5 past sangertown square and decided to cut through the mall to get to the grocery store.  approaching the mall entrance, there were a bunch of flares down on the road and a few police cars.

driving slow…  looking to see what happened…  we saw piles of “stuff” in the road.  indescribable, really.  although, i thought, at the time, that one of the pieces looked like a “side of beef”.

apparently…  it sort of was.  parts is parts, man.  ;-)
